Dwayne Peel has almost certainly made himself favourite for the number 9 jersey on this summer’s British & Irish Lions tour of New Zealand with a Man-of-the-Match display in Wales’ 46-22 Six Nations win at Murrayfield.
Peel believes Wales produced their most impressive rugby of the 2005 Six Nations to trounce Scotland and stay on course for a prized Grand Slam.
The visitors – who have set themselves up for a chance to clinch the title on their home patch against Ireland next weekend – were totally in control by half-time.
Central to that superiority was scrum-half Peel, but he paid tribute to the efforts of his Wales pack as well as his fellow backs in a performance which yielded Wales six tries to Scotland’s three.
"We knew it was going to be a very tough game up here," the half-back told BBC2.
"We came out all guns blazing, and I think played some of our best rugby of the tournament in the first half.
"The pack were awesome and gave the backs the platform to launch their attacks."
