South Africa lock Victor Matfield has been found not guilty by the SANZAR disciplinary commission after being cited for a late tackle during Saturday’s Tri-Nations game against New Zealand.
Matfield was called before the disciplinary committee for his tackle on All Blacks scrum-half Byron Kelleher in the 10th minute of the game in Cape Town.
But the forward has been cleared of any offence and will be able to represent the Springboks in their next match against Australia in Perth on August 20.
"The committee found that the referee did not err in his finding that the tackle by Victor Matfield on Byron Kelleher was not late or dangerous," read a statement by the SANZAR disciplinary commission.
The Springboks upset New Zealand 22-16 to rack up their second successive win in the Tri-Nations and their third consecutive over a Southern Hemisphere rival.
