New Zealand record try-scorer Christian Cullen will miss most of Munster’s forthcoming season after there were complications in his recovery from a shoulder injury.
Cullen, who joined the Irish province on a three-year contract in 2003, missed the end of last term and Munster’s run to the Celtic Cup title after he tore ligaments in his left shoulder against Cardiff in March.
A statement from the club confirmed: "Complications have occurred with Christian’s injury and are being assessed by the medical team.
"He will not be available to resume playing for Munster until February."
Munster will have to negotiate a tricky European Cup pool one without the 58-times capped All Blacks full-back, who turns 30 in February.
