ACT Brumbies coach Laurie Fisher and NSW Waratahs boss Ewen McKenzie agreed fly-half Stephen Larkham was the difference between the two sides in Sunday’s Super 14 clash.
Larkham scored two tries and set up a further two as the Brumbies continued their excellent recent form with a 36-10 victory.
It was only the Larkham’s third match back after suffering a shoulder injury, but the Waratahs had no answer to his decision making and precise kicking game.
"It was a fantastic return for him," said Fisher.
"He’s been building over the last few weeks and when the forwards deliver some good quality ball it gives an opportunity for your great players to play.
"I certainly think it’s the best and quickest ball that we’ve been able to recycle all year and I think that really gives him the opportunity to play as he’d like."
McKenzie echoed Fisher’s sentiments, emphasising the importance of Larkham in the Brumbies’ quest to maintain their place in the Super 14 top four.
"When you play those games, you obviously hope someone like Stephen Larkham isn’t going to have his best game of the year and he probably had his best game of the year," the Waratahs coach said.
"Those things make a big difference in terms of the overall result. He’s an outstanding player and he’s turned in a great performance."
Despite suffering a blow to the thigh during the clash, Larkham is expected to be fit for the Brumbies next match against the Western Force in a fortnight.
