South Africa veteran Johann Ackermann has been called up to the squad for their season-ending fixture against the Barbarians at Twickenham on Saturday.
Ackermann is flying in as a standby for Bakkies Botha, who sustained an injury in the 32-12 win over Wales in Cardiff last weekend.
"Botha hurt his ankle during the Prince William Cup game against Wales on Saturday," said a South African team statement.
The team for the Barbarians clash will be named on Wednesday, but reports in the South African media suggest Springbok coach Jake White has formally asked permission to use all 25 players in his squad.
The game will be White’s last game in charge of the world champions as his contract comes to an end in December.
