Lions centre Gavin Henson could return to action this weekend when the Ospreys travel to Treviso in the Heineken Cup.
The 26-year-old, who toured with the Lions in 2005, missed all four of Wales’ autumn internationals after aggravating an Achilles tendon injury.
Henson had been due to start the clash with the Lions’ opponents South Africa on November 8 but withdrew from the squad in the week leading up to the match. He was then also absent for the defeat to New Zealand and the wins over Canada and Australia in Cardiff.
Henson last appeared in the Ospreys EDF Energy Cup defeat to London Irish on November 2 but the double Grand Slam winner has completed just three full matches in seven months after an ankle injury brought his 2007/08 campaign to a premature end.
“We are hopeful that Gavin will be available for next weekend,” said Ospreys coach Sean Holley after his side hammered the Italian outfit 68-8 at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Henson has not played for his country since last season’s Six Nations but, if his latest comeback goes smoothly, he should still have time to prove himself on the international stage prior to the Lions departure to South Africa next summer.
