Tim Payne talks after his first cap for the British & Irish Lions against the Emerging Springboks.
On joining the Lions
The Lions is a magical thing – it is steeped in history and tradition and I am just loving the experience. The boys all seem to be a tight knit unit and work for each other and it can only be a good thing.
I’ve been dreaming about this moment since I was a little kid and you want to strive to be at the top and when you get opportunities you want to take them. To have got to train and play is a dream come true and you just put on that jersey and want to do the best you can do
On coming in late
Quite fortunate for me as I know a lot of the coaching staff and the players either at Wasps, England or playing against them.
On the game
It was a tough game and frustrating result but the overriding feeling for me is it is great to be a part of it and playing. It’s been a pretty tight turnaround but I just did what Gats (Warren Gatland) told me what to do when I first joined Wasps six years ago and there are things that could of gone better and we wanted the result but for me I guess its just a magical moment.
