British & Irish Lions legend Sir Ian McGeechan has become the new performance director at English Premiership outfit Bath.
A year after leading the Lions into battle against the world champion Springboks, the 63-year-old is back in full-time employment after taking a short-term appointment as a consultant to Gloucester last season.
But his new post at Bath will see him back in the day-to-day mix of top flight rugby, working alongside head coach Steve Meehan
“Bath have a very clear vision for the future development of the club and have made a clear statement of intent with the new headquarters at Farleigh House,” said Sir Ian.
“I’m delighted to become part of a club that is developing the infrastructure on and off the pitch to achieve long term success and become one of the strongest clubs in the Europe.
“This is an exciting project I am really looking forward to working with Steve Meehan, Martin Haag, Brad Davis and the rest of the coaching staff. The team is going well under Steve.
“Performance director covers all the support systems behind the first team, which includes the academy, and looking at all the things we need in place to recognise talent, develop it and then use it at the very highest level.
“The challenge is to have a good professional set-up behind the first team to have consistent performances on the field, get to those finals and win some silverware.”
