Gavin Henson has revealed he wants to play fly-half on his return to rugby.
The Welsh star has been under the media spotlight in the last few weeks and in an honest interview with BBC’s Scrum V programme, Henson made public his desire to return to the game ahead of next year’s Six Nations and to play in his favoured role of fly-half.
“I feel I will probably only need one or two games to prove myself to be included in the Six Nations team,” said Henson.
“My favourite position is ten, I would like to get back to it to be honest. I like playing there and maybe I could play ten for Wales.”
Lion Henson, who toured with Britain and Ireland’s elite in 2005 is aiming to add to his glittering CV which already includes two grand slam’s by making an appearance at the world cup in New Zealand next summer.
Lyn Jones, Henson’s former coach at the Ospreys, believes the move to fly half is a good one for the 28-year-old.
It would be a really positive move for him. I think he is a world-class fly-half in waiting,” Jones told the Western Mail.
“He is a brilliant player who is good enough to play anywhere. But I don’t think centre is his best position. He is a 15, who can grow up to be a 10.
“He has all the attributes you need to play in the position. He’s got a big kicking game, he can run a line and he understands the game inside out.
“I always knew he would finish off at 10 once he matured and got a bit more confidence.
“The sooner he gets back on the field and slots in at fly-half the better. It would be a fantastic move for him.”
