England’s preparations for the upcoming autumn internationals have been stung after a trio of Wasps stars picked up injuries prior to and during their 37-10 defeat at the hands of Northampton Saints.
Most worrying for Martin Johnson will be the injuries picked up by Lions duo Riki Flutey and Simon Shaw.
Flutey, who played in six games during the Lions’ 2009 tour of South Africa including the third-Test victory, is the biggest doubt for Martin Johnson's men after leaving the field with a calf injury.
Shaw, a Lions veteran with three tours under his belt, is also struggling with a calf problem that forced him to withdraw from the Aviva Premiership clash with Northampton.
Joe Simpson, a member of the second-string England Saxons outfit, is also a concern after being hampered by a shoulder injury.
"Riki will be assessed by England," said Wasps coach Tony Hanks.
"Hopefully he won't be out for too long.
"These things can take a day or two before you learn how bad they are, but he was definitely pretty sore.
"Simon will also be looked at by England. He had a calf strain on Friday. It was innocuous but he wasn't fit to play. Hopefully it's not long-term.
"Joe has a sore shoulder. He's being looked at. It was late in the game but, whether or not he could carry on, we were going to take him off."
