Henson vows to regain Wales place

Gavin Henson has vowed to regain his place in the Welsh set-up after being booted from Strictly Come Dancing.

The 2005 Lion has not played a game of rugby since March 2009 after picking up an Achilles and ankle injury. Henson then took unpaid leave from the Ospreys but ended his self-imposed sabbatical in October by signing for Saracens.

Although the centre has been training with the Aviva Premiership outfit he has been unable to play due to his television commitments. But now they have come to an end Henson's rugby return is imminent.

The 28-year-old has already been pencilled in for Saracens' Wembley showdown with Wasps on Boxing Day. But he could now be in line for a place in Sarries' 23-man squad to face Racing Metro 92 next weekend.

And Henson is targetting a swift return to form to secure a place in Warren Gatland's RBS 6Nations squad.

"I’m going to concentrate on my rugby now. I’m keen to get into the Six Nations squad and the Rugby World Cup is coming up.

"The television side of it is not going to happen for a while now. I hadn’t played rugby for nearly two years. It was a struggle injury-wise, for my body and form. I wasn’t in a very positive place and I needed to sort that out.

"But I’ve got my energy and my drive back now.

"I’m a bit sad that Strictly Come Dancing over. It’s taken over my life the last three months. It’s been an awesome experience.

"I’ve out done myself. I didn’t really expect to get to the semi- finals. It was a big achievement just to get through the first week.

"I’m competitive but as long as I know I’ve given everything I don’t mind losing."

Henson has settled in well at the Vicarage Road club but has admitted he has been the talk of the training ground and come in for plenty of banter from his new teammates.

"It’s been easy to fit in," added Henson. "The players have got something to talk to me about. They want to know all the gossip. There’s been a little bit of mick-taking but I can take it."
