Former Lions star Gavin Henson is ready to play for Wales again according to his club coach.
Henson hasn’t featured for his country since the Six Nations defeat to Ireland in February 2009 but Saracens’ departing director of rugby Brendan Venter believes the 28-year-old can make a seemless return.
The 2005 Test Lion returned to action for the first time in 21 months last weekend as Sarries beat Wasps at Wembley.
Henson came on as a 51st-minute replacement at the home of English football and Venter has already seen enough to state that his new star can make the step back up to international rugby in just over a month’s time.
“I thought Gavin did well off the bench against Wasps but having seen him now in training for the last two weeks, I can already tell he is ready to play for Wales again,” said Venter.
The South African has confirmed that Henson will make his first start for his new club at Sale Sharks on Sunday, giving him another opportunity to impress Wales head coach Warren Gatland ahead of the Six Nations opener with England on February 4.
