Rob Howley is being tipped to link up with Sir Ian McGeechan at Bath next season.
The pair first worked together as player and coach on the historic 1997 Lions tour of South Africa when Howley excelled for Britain and Ireland’s elite before a shoulder injury cruelly robbed him of a Test place.
They then worked together with the Lions once more two summers ago when Howley was part of McGeechan’s coaching staff for the 2009 tour of South Africa.
And now the duo could be reunited once more with Howley seemingly a strong contender for the vacant head coach role at Bath.
The departure of Steve Meehan has left that position vacant since the end of the season and the Western Mail claims director of rugby McGeechan is keen on inviting Howley to join him at The Rec.
Former Wales star Howley has been involved with the national coaching set up since January 2008 but he is out of contract after this year’s World Cup.
And with Wales boss Warren Gatland rumoured to be thinking of restructuring his backroom staff after the tournament, a move to club coaching could be on the cards for Howley.
