Scotland full back Chris Paterson has called time on his Test career.
The 33-year-old is Scotland’s record cap holder with 109 international appearances over a 12-year Test career.
Paterson is also his country’s record point scorer having amassed 809 points courtesy of 22 tries, 170 penalties, 90 conversions and three drop goals.
The youngest Scot to reach 50 caps back in 2004, Paterson has played at wing and fly-half as well as full back.
His last Test outing came against England in the final pool match of the recent World Cup as his fourth global gathering ended in disappointment.
Paterson had made his debut on the same stage in 1999, earning his opening cap against Spain in the first World Cup of the professional era.
He remains the only Scot to have broken the 100-cap barrier but he missed out an adding a Lions call up to his considerable list of achievements.
Paterson came close to a Lions place in 2005 when Britain and Ireland’s elite headed to New Zealand but he lost out to Jason Robinson, Josh Lewsey, Geordan Murphy, Mark Cueto, Denis Hickie, Shane Horgan, Gareth Thomas and Shane Williams when it came to a back-three slot.
He did have the honour of captaining his country on 12 occasions, however, and also holds the record for Scottish World Cup caps at 15.
Paterson had hoped to carry on with his international career next year but a hip injury has limited his game time and goal kicking exploits with Edinburgh this season.
