Geech to lead review

Lions legend Sir Ian McGeechan will lead a review into the Rugby Football Union.

McGeechan, a two-time Lions tourist and five-time coach will link up with UK Sport performance director Peter Keen to analyse and assess England's union and its long-term strategy for success.

"Across the organisation we're continually looking at how we can do things better," said RFU chief executive Ian Ritchie.

"I'm delighted we've got two outstanding individuals involved.

"This is a very positive move. [McGeechan and Keen will look at] the best performance pathways, support mechanisms and programmes which ultimately result in better England teams."

Keen was head of UK Sport and was the architect of the systems and processes that led to Great Britain's 19 golds at the Beijing Olympics.

He also continued to oversee the performance pathways that resulted in the 29 gold medals at London 2012.

"We have one of the greatest rugby brains of modern times allied with one of the most respected performance experts Great Britain has produced and that experience of best practice at the very top of elite sport can only benefit us," added Ritchie.

"I know they're both very excited about their involvement and I'm looking forward to working with them closely."
