David Pocock has now been ruled out of Australia’s entire Rugby Championship.
The Wallabies skipper damaged knee ligaments in Saturday's loss to New Zealand and underwent surgery earlier today.
It was initially unclear how long the flanker would be on the sidelines but it has now been confirmed that he will be out of action for up to three months.
The loss of Pocock for the championship will be a major blow for Australia and he could also miss the Wallabies' European tour.
Pocock has forged a reputation as one of the world's best flankers and, injury-permitting, he would be a sure bet to face the Lions in 2013.
