Scotland have been dealt a RBS 6 Nations blow after Nick de Luca was ruled out for two months.
The Edinburgh centre suffered a fractured eye socket in a training collision ahead of their 1872 Cup double-header with Glasgow.
De Luca underwent surgery and is set to be out of action for up to two-months, subsequently missing the Six Nations.
“It was deemed that the operation would be the best course of action to support the quickest return to playing,” said a statement released by Edinburgh.
“De Luca's progress will continue to be monitored by the expert medical staff at Edinburgh Rugby and Spire Murrayfield Hospital.”
Scott Johnson’s men kick-off their Championship campaign against England at Twickenham on 2 February.
