Wallaby fans have voted David Pocock versus Sam Warburton as the match up they’d most like to see on the 2013 Lions tour.
Lions boss Warren Gatland isn’t due to name his squad until late April but the Australian Rugby Union have already been debating who will be involved when Britain and Ireland’s elite head Down Under.
Fans in Oz were given a raft of potential personal contests to choose from in a public poll, with the battle of the star opensides an overwhelming favourite.
Pocock versus Warburton scooped 38 per cent of the vote ahead of the three-match Test series due to take place on June 22, 29 and July 6 in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney.
The pair faced each other in the same cities last summer when the Wallabies edged out Warburton’s Wales 27-19, 25-23 and 20-19 in three thrilling encounters.
They met again in Pocock’s first game back from injury as the Aussies secured a last-gasp triumph in Cardiff on December 1 and plenty of people on both sides of the equator are tipping them to line up as skippers when the biggest sporting series of the year kicks off at the Suncorp Stadium.
Adam Ashley-Cooper versus Brian O’Driscoll finished as runner up with 20 per cent of the vote, Robbie Deans and Warren Gatland polled 18 per cent and Digby Ioane against Chris Ashton was next in line with 14 per cent.
All the match ups were chosen by the official Wallaby site rugby.com.au and they even included Kurtley Beale versus Jonny Wilkinson as one of their options, although that particular dual only gained 10 per cent of the vote.
