Despite spending the summer on tour with the British & Irish Lions, Sean Maitland admits he’s not taking his place in the Glasgow Warriors side for granted.
The Scotland international had a year to remember last term, playing in the Six Nations before receiving the call-up from Warren Gatland for the tour Down Under against Australia.
Despite not playing in a Test against the Qantas Wallabies, the wing impressed in the five games he did play – scoring a try against Melbourne Rebels.
He has started this season in the same vein for the Warriors, who are top of the Pro 12 table after winning their first five games.
But after losing 51-28 to Toulon in the Heineken Cup on Sunday, Maitland insists there is no guarantee he will be a regular for the Scottish outfit – especially with fellow Lion Stuart Hogg on the mend.
“We have got a lot of depth in this team,” he told the Daily Record. “No-one is safe – not even me.
“And especially when Hoggy comes back, we will have some talent in the starting XV and even the guys on the sidelines.
“We haven't had a solid 80-minute performance yet. If you look at all of the five matches so far (in the league), it was probably the Leinster game that we can all look back on and agree that we played awesome.”
