British & Irish Lion Paul O’Connell will continue to wear Munster red for at least the next two years after penning a new contract with the IRFU.
The lock has enjoyed a storied career for club and country since his debut in 2001, making 154 appearances for Irish province Munster and 88 caps with Ireland.
In that time O’Connell has appeared on three Lions tours – amassing seven Test caps – and helped end the Lions’ 16-year series victory drought after success against the Qantas Wallabies last year.
And the 34-year-old is set to enjoy many more games at the highest level after tying up his future for another two years at Munster.
“I am delighted to sign a new IRFU contract and to continue playing with Munster for the next two seasons,” said O’Connell.
“Over the years I have been privileged to play in many fantastic Munster sides and as we build for the future I am excited by the prospect of playing my part in achieving success with Munster and Ireland in the coming seasons.”
