British & Irish Lion Jonathan Davies is closing in on a return to the international stage, according to his head coach Warren Gatland.
Davies, who helped Gatland’s Lions to success in Australia last summer after appearing in all three Tests, has struggled to overcome a pectoral injury sustained in Wales’ clash against South Africa last November.
However, Wales coach Gatland is expecting to link-up with Davies once more for next month’s international fixtures after revealing the centre will be making his comeback for club side Scarlets on Saturday.
“Jonathan is not too far away – he's going to play for the Scarlets this weekend – so that's great news in terms of the amount of progress he's made,” said Gatland.
“He's been training with us, he's been doing contact, so we're really, really pleased with his progress in terms of how far he's come.
“That adds to the strength in depth of the squad and it's great to see him come back and be fit, even if it's just for regional rugby for this weekend.
“It's a huge boost to the squad and a huge boost to him and us.”
