Hibbard sure time was right for Ospreys departure

British & Irish Lions hooker Richard Hibbard believes the time was right to bring the curtain down on his career in Wales after ten years with club side Ospreys.

Hibbard, who featured in all three Lions tests last summer, joined the Welsh region in 2004 but has decided to move to pastures new after being offered a three-year deal with Gloucester.

However, while the 30-year-old admitted it was a difficult choice to leave Swansea behind, he is sure that Gloucester are the right club for him.

“If I was ever going to leave the Ospreys, now was the time. I wanted to go somewhere where it was all about rugby and a traditional club, Hibbard told ESPN.

“The atmosphere roped me in as well. It will be strange though and it'll be tough being away from mates and family but it's for the best.

“I spoke to Mefin Davies and he said it was one of the best decisions of his life. I'm delighted with my decision."

And while the end of the season brings a short break from club playing duties, the Lions star knows it won’t be long until he is doing is talking on the pitch in the Premiership.

“I don't really get nervous pre-match, but there is a focus of not wanting to let anyone down,” he added.

“You want to keep the high standards up. I don't go silent or anything but you do think. I'm not really a talker, I'm a doer.

“I leave the talking to the talkers and I just focus on doing my best around the park."
