British & Irish Lions winger George North has all the attributes to win 100 caps for Wales and etch his name into the history books, according to England World Cup winner Ben Cohen.
The 22-year-old has been a stand-out star for Northampton since moving from Scarlets at the beginning of the season, scoring a vital try against Leicester Tigers last weekend to set up a Twickenham final with Saracens.
North has already picked up 40 caps for Wales since bursting onto the international stage in 2010 – becoming the youngest Welshman to score on his debut as they lost 29-25 to South Africa – and played in all three games of the Lions series winning tour of Australia last year, scoring one of the great Lions tries in the opening test win.
And Cohen, who himself wore the green No.11 jersey for Northampton from 1996 until 2007 and won the European Cup in 2000, believes that North can join Gethin Jenkins, Stephen Jones, Gareth Thomas and Martyn Williams in an elite list of Welshmen to have become centurions for their country.
“George has all the attributes, that’s phenomenal [that he’s only 22] and he’s a great player,” Cohen, who toured Australia with the Lions back in 2001, told Wales Online.
“He is quick, agile and is a huge man and someone I would not have liked to play against.
“If he carries on as he has for the next six years and stays injury free then he is easily a 100 capper. He is almost halfway there at 22. That is remarkable!”
