Sixteen British & Irish Lions are set to mark the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo by cycling from Brussels to London this summer in aid of Walking With The Wounded – and want you to join them!
The Waterloo 200 will retrace the path taken by Major Percy, on behalf of the Duke of Wellington, from the battlefield to the East India Club in London to deliver notice of victory to the Prince Regent.
Four teams of 50 will comprise four Lions, one wounded ex-soldier and 45 members of the public with the landmark event running from 17-20 June.
It is hoped each rider can raise £1,000 to help Walking With The Wounded, who assist ex-servicemen and women that have suffered physical, mental or social injuries gain skills and qualifications required to develop new careers outside of the military – cementing their long-term financial security. Up to 500 ex-military personnel are expected to benefit.
Former British & Irish Lions coach Sir Ian McGeechan, the Ride of the Lions ambassador, said: “It will be quite some spectacle to see 200 riders in Lions red with so many rugby legends taking part and, of course, the WWTW representatives who make us so proud.
