British and Irish Lions lock Alun Wyn Jones admits he is frustrated with a lack of silverware at club side Ospreys, after another trophyless season in Wales.
The 29-year-old skippered the Lions to glory in the absence of captain Sam Warburton on their 2013 tour of Australia, lifting the Tom Richards Cup alongside his compatriot in Sydney after the Sea of Red roared to a 41-16 victory in the final test.
But trophies have been harder to come by of late for Jones, with both Wales and Ospreys failing to collect any silverware since the Lions’ 2013 triumph.
And after Saturday’s league semi-final defeat to a Munster side containing Lions teammates Paul O’Connell and Simon Zebo, Jones has called on his club side to up their intensity at the business end of the season.
“We have to want it a bit more,” he told the South Wales Evening Post. “This can't be enough.
“As long as we embody that in the off season, the boys will be champing at the bit ready for next season.
“A lot of young guys have put their hands up this year. We were tested through the autumn and spring international periods, but they acquitted themselves very well and are ready to step into the breach for whoever isn't here.
“The disappointing thing from my perspective is I'd rather lose a final than a semi-final. It was knockout rugby. I think we acquitted ourselves very well, as we have done all season.
“We have tried to be level headed and humble about it and I think we were. We showed the utmost respect to Munster.”
