Lions Origin Schools Map launched

As part of The British & Irish Lions, People. Place. Pride. initiative, we have launched the Lions Origin Schools map, a dedicated interactive map where you can find the details of schools that have produced a Lions player.

Lions Origin Clubs and Schools are those that have helped shape the future of the Lions by guiding players on their rugby journey.

To celebrate and reward these clubs and schools, together with our Principal Partners Canterbury and Howden, we offer exclusive access to the heraldic Lions Origin Club and School logo which can be applied to on and off field kit by Canterbury.

The new map allows you to search by school, club, player or location to find details of past British & Irish Lions, where they have played and their record as a Lion.

From the southern tip of Cornwall where Mount Bay has produced two Lions in Jack Nowell (828) and Luke Cowan-Dickie (851) all the way up to north east Scotland where Aberdeen Grammar School has produced two Lions in Ernie Michie (381) and Doug Smith (355), the map gives the full picture of the vast array of schools across the UK and Ireland that have been the foundation for some of the greatest ever rugby players who have pulled on the red jersey.

Greenhill School in Tenby is the most westerly school to have produced a Lion in the UK having been the formative school of Lion 740 Tom Shanklin while Coleraine Academical Institution can claim to be the most northern school in Northern Ireland to have produced a Lion with seven Lions having come through their system.

St Mary’s College Rathmines and Blackrock College can boast of being the schools that have produced the most Lions while Ballymena Academy has produced four Lions captains.

As The British & Irish Lions build towards the 2025 Tour of Australia, keep an eye out for updates alongside our partners Canterbury and Howden that celebrates the role these schools played in the journeys of players.
