Farrell looks ahead to historic Lions fixture

Lions Head Coach Andy Farrell has spoken of his excitement at The British & Irish Lions facing Argentina in Dublin on 20 June 2025 with the Lions playing in Ireland for the first time.

The two sides are set to meet for the first time since 2005 when they played in Cardiff and fixture goes as far back as 1920 when the Lions toured Argentina for the first time. They went on to play again in both 1927 and 1936.

The 2025 fixture in Dublin for the 1888 Cup will be a milestone moment for the Lions and the chance for the side to run out on home soil in front of a full stadium of fans.

With the 2021 Tour being COVID-disrupted, the match will mark the first time in eight years that the Lions have played in front of a full stadium of supporters and Farrell said he was excited by the return of the ‘Sea of Red’.

“The countdown begins,” said Farrell, who was announced as Lions Head Coach at the start of the year.

“We can’t wait to welcome the fans to Dublin next summer.

“It will be a historic match against Argentina and the chance for our Sea of Red fans to see the Lions in action on home soil before we begin the Series in Australia.”
