Wales and British & Irish Lions back Peter Morgan has passed away at the age of 65 after battling a brain tumour.

Morgan toured South Africa with the Lions in 1980 and captained Llanelli to a famous victory over Australia in 1984.

Born in Haverfordwest on 1 January 1959, Morgan was a fast learner in rugby terms and earnt selection for the Wales youth team in 1977.

After a spell playing with Haverfordwest RFC, he switched to first class with Llanelli.

Morgan played four times for Wales and earned his first Lions selection aged 21.

He played in seven regional encounters on the 1980 Tour, with the Lions running out victorious in all of them.

The talented utility back’s versatility was unmatched as he played in every three-quarter position for both Wales and the Lions.

After retiring Morgan also served as an independent member of Pembrokeshire County Council for 16 years.
