Lions charity partners raise huge amounts through gruelling challenges

The five charity partners of The British & Irish Lions have been busy over the summer raising money through a number of different physical challenges.

Whether it is on bikes, on foot or through other charity work, there have been huge sums of money raised by the Matt Hampson Foundation, Dallaglio Rugby Works, My Name’5 Doddie, Wooden Spoon and LooseHeadz.

Two-time British & Irish Lions tourist Dean Richards (pictured above) has been out on his bike raising money for the Matt Hampson Foundation.

Now 61, Richards toured with the Lions to Australia in 1989 before doing so again to New Zealand four years later and played in six Tests on the tours.

And this summer he has been out on his bike as part of a ride from Paris to London, joining a group of riders that also included Hampson’s dad Phil as they raised £25,000 for the foundation, with a cheque presented at Hinckley Rugby Club.

That was one of many fundraising events undertaken by the official charity partners of The British & Irish Lions over the summer.

Ultra-runner Simon Dent completed the gruelling Dragon’s Back Race in Wales, and has raised nearly £8,000 for Dallaglio Rugby Works.

Dent completed the legendary 380km, six-day ultra-running event in Wales that goes from Conwy Castle to Cardiff.

And he has already lined up a challenge for 2025, announcing his plans to for The Long Run, which will take place in Australia during the 2025 Lions Tour.

Elsewhere, My Name’5 Doddie have committed £225,000 to MND research as part of the Catalyst Awards.
