Jonah Lomu has denied demanding a £174,500 deal to re-sign with the New Zealand Rugby Union.
The former international winger has currently been dropped to North Harbour’s reserve squad to prove his match fitness ahead of the Air New Zealand Cup knock-out stage.
And Lomu has refuted reports that he expects to be made one of the sport’s highest earner to stay in the game.
He said: "It’s absolute rubbish. I’m not sure where this has come from but we have certainly not asked for anything from the NZRU."
Lomu added neither he nor his wife and agent had met the NZRU to discuss a contract for next season, with his last pay discussions with the union occurring before the 2003 World Cup.
