Seymour’s first week in Lions camp is a dream come true

Tommy Seymour admits his first week in Lions training camp has been a dream come true.

The Scotland winger has been part of the squad in camp this week at the WRU’s National Centre of Excellence at the Vale of Glamorgan.

Players from all four of the home nations have come together under Head Coach Warren Gatland for an intense first week of training both in the gym and out on the pitch.

In addition to rugby, the Lions have enjoyed each other's company off the pitch – Seymour has been sharing a room with Jonathan Joseph – at meal times and in choir practices.

Next week sees the squad head to Carton House in Ireland for the second week of camp and Seymour cannot wait.

“It’s living a dream every day that you are involved with this and I cannot wait to get out there now,” he said.

“It’s been amazing, surreal coming in here. With the Lions being what it is, the history is pretty well documented.

"Seeing everything around and the quality of the players means there is quality right across the board.

“I am fully excited about the boys I am going to be playing with. Everyone is well aware that the main thing is we bed down together as a squad as quickly as possible.

“Relatively speaking it is a short time when compared to a country or a regional side, but everyone has been great and realised the task at hand.

“And to be honest it has been really easy for this group, we have had a really good week and bedded in well with each other and hopefully that will continue when the other lads come in.”

The first game of the Tour in New Zealand is just over a fortnight away when the tourists will take on the New Zealand Provincial Barbarians on June 3 in Whangarei.

And the preparations in camp this week have been with one eye on that game says Seymour.

“We have had a really successful week,” he added.

“In my opinion we have ticked a lot of boxes that will give all of us here a headstart for the weeks to come.

“There is such drive and such purpose with everything you do, both the players and the support staff.

“It has only been four or five days in and the deeper we get into the Tour the more it will be enjoyed.”
