British & Irish Lion Simon Zebo admits he’s eyeing a place in Ireland’s World Cup squad after his full recovery from injury.
Zebo played in three tour matches for the Lions in Australia last summer, and was part of the squad that triumphed 2-1 Down Under.
But over the past couple of years he has suffered from two broken feet, which has limited his opportunities with Ireland.
However, with a World Cup on the horizon next year the 24-year-old says he is focussed on adding to his eight caps.
“In the last two years I’ve had two broken feet, which has put a dent in my progress internationally,” Zebo told the Irish Examiner. “I’d like to have a lot more caps than I already do.
“But that’s rugby, that’s what you sign up for, and I’m just happy to be back in the fold now and have a shot at next year’s World Cup.
“Joe [Schmidt, the Ireland coach] gave me a few things to work on. It’s just all about dealing into this season, we don’t have to look back.
“It’s about how we can lead into next season and the November series. It’s just all about gathering momentum for the World Cup.”
