A British & Irish Lions legend, Brian O’Driscoll insists he will pull no punches in his new role as a pundit having hung up his boots at the end of last season.
The Irish centre, capped 141 times in international rugby, was part of the Lions side that claimed their first series win in 16 years last summer in Australia.
In his final season the centre won the Six Nations one final time before claiming the domestic league title with Leinster to bow out in style.
And the 35-year-old is hoping that he can replicate some of his brilliance on the field in the punditry booth.
“I think that is what people want, they want that little bit of an inside track,' said O’Driscoll.
“You can see in different sports that different ex-players have been able to marry the two, and while not necessarily remaining popular, can certainly be respected by those who are still playing, and can give a good balanced, knowledgeable opinion about what is going on.
“The game moves on so quickly and it is about trying to understand some of the nuances about what is happening, rather than just what they are seeing for themselves on the pitch – it is about the reasons why tackles are missed and scores happen, so hopefully I will be able to add my tuppence worth.
“It is just an opinion, one which is not necessarily correct, but one which I am going to put out there.”
