Lawrence Dallaglio, renowned England and British & Irish Lions rugby icon, is gearing up for his last-ever sponsored bike ride, marking the culmination of 14 years of extraordinary philanthropic effort.
Having already raised an impressive £4 million across seven mammoth treks, Dallaglio’s final ride aims to further support disadvantaged youth across Britain.
Over the years, the funds raised have made a significant impact on the lives of disadvantaged children in cities like Liverpool, Manchester, Cardiff, Newcastle, Birmingham, and London.
Reflecting on his journey, Dallaglio remarked: “I estimated that over all the rides so far, supporters of Dallaglio RugbyWorks have cycled some 500,000km.”
He highlighted the camaraderie amongst cyclists and the euphoric sense of achievement after completing grueling challenges.
From 14-25th April, Lawrence is cycling from Rome to Nice, covering over 1000km of cycling and 14,000m of climbing. Joined by friends and supporters like fellow Lion Martin Johnson and former Wham star Andrew Ridgeley, Dallaglio emphasised the transformative power of cycling.
“When we retired, we both discovered cycling was a good fit for us,” he explained. “A low-impact sport with challenging training that’s a great way to keep fit.”
The funds raised by Dallaglio’s efforts play a vital role in supporting disadvantaged youth excluded from mainstream education.
“Our mission is to ensure that those young people are not excluded from society and therefore have an equal chance to be in Education, Employment, or Training,” he stated.
Dallaglio’s commitment to philanthropy echoes the same willpower, grit, and determination he brought to his illustrious rugby career, embodying the spirit of overcoming challenges for a greater cause.
