‘An unbelievable honour’ – that was the feeling Lions Rugby Travel clients experienced when they were granted exclusive access to watch the British & Irish Lions train ahead of their game against Western Force.
In a first for fans following The Lions on Tour with the official travel company, supporters were able to see behind the scenes at a training session, have autographs signed by Tour captain Sam Warburton and Brian O’Driscoll and get closer to the team than ever before.
“What can I say? Having something like this available to us was an absolute honour – it was a real, real privilege to be there and see it,” said Norman Roberts, who is on the full Tour with Lions Rugby Travel.
The group left their Rydges Hotel in the morning and were transferred to the Nib Stadium, where The Lions were scheduled to run through their final preparations ahead of their second game on Tour.
After watching the coaches set up the session, the entire 23-man squad met Guy Richardson, Operations Director of The British & Irish Lions, who explained to them what they were about to see and the importance of The Lions connecting with their fans.
“The Lions need this support – it really helps the players get through what is such a gruelling schedule and is very important to them,” he said.
After Warren Gatland and his coaches had run through the session, the likes of Brian O’Driscoll and Sam Warburton met fans and signed autographs.
“It was fantastic – a great experience – and something that makes this Tour with Lions Rugby Travel so different and unique,” added Norman.
