Jantjes set for return

Springbok fullback Conrad Jantjes is set to receive the perfect birthday present this week with a recall to the Stormers Super 14 side for their clash with the Crusaders in Christchurch.

The 24-times capped Jantjes, who is 29 today, has missed his side’s last three games because of a troublesome calf injury.

But having worked his way back to full fitness he is set to take over from veteran South African full back Percy Montgomery in the Stormers’ side for their first assignment on their New Zealand tour.

Stormers assistant coach Allister Coetzee declared Jantjes as “fit and raring to go” and it seems likely he will be given a starting berth by coach Rassie Erasmus when he announces his team on Wednesday.

The experienced AJ Venter, still going strong at 35, looks like being pressed into second row duty to cover for the injured Andries Bekker.
