London Irish will earn the Premiership a seventh place in next season’s European Cup if they beat Toulouse at Twickenham on Saturday.
Teams from England and France are guaranteed six automatic places in Europe’s blue-riband competition each season.
However, an extra spot is awarded to either England, France or Italy depending on which nation’s clubs representatives progressed further the previous season.
Victory for Irish on Saturday would ensure a French club has failed to make it past the semi-finals, rewarding the Premiership with an extra place.
A win for Toulouse would secure the seventh spot for France only if Munster defeat Saracens in the second semi-final, staged at the Ricoh Arena on Sunday.
