Warren Gatland has extended his contract with the Waikato Rugby Union as coach of the Air New Zealand Cup champions and assistant coach of the Chiefs.
Gatland helped the Mooloos to the national provincial title last year and will stay with the side until 2009.
The former Wasps and Ireland coach said: "I want to commit myself to New Zealand rugby for the next two years and would obviously look to coach at a higher level in New Zealand if that opportunity arises."
WRU chief executive Gary Dawson added: "We all know that Warren is an internationally recognised coach of the finest calibre and his services are in huge demand overseas.
"To retain his expertise is wonderful for our province as he has made a huge contribution to developing rugby in the Waikato."
