Fast winger Jack Anderton toured with the newly formed British & Irish Lions to Australia and New Zealand in 1888.

Anderton originally played for Wigan before moving to Salford, where he made his name with 17 tries in 52 games.

The impressive speedster was called up by Alfred Shaw and Arthur Shrewsbury for the inaugural Lions Tour, and he featured in 29 games, scoring 14 tries in total.

One of those was the Lions' first ever match against Otago, and he was part of history with the second try of the match in the 8-3 win.
