The former Wales captain got the perfect start to his Lions career with two tries on debut at blindside flanker in the 2001 Tour to Australia in an 83-6 thrashing of a Queensland President’s XV.

Charvis, lining up in the back-row alongside Martyn Williams and Martin Corry, also crossed the line against the New South Wales Country Districts in the final warm-up game before the First Test.

His two Test appearances both came from the replacements bench; in the first Test against the Australians in Brisbane where the Lions secured a historic 29-13 win before coming up just short in the deciding third Test in Sydney.

Charvis spent the majority of his playing career at Swansea, making his international debut in 1996, and went on to win 94 caps, captaining his country through the 2003 Rugby World Cup.
