Back row David Wallace followed in the footsteps of brothers Paul and Richard when he toured with the Lions in 2001. But he had to wait until 2009 to win his first Test cap.

For the 2001 Tour to Australia he featured against New South Wales Country Districts and scored against ACT Brumbies, but the Irishman was not included in any of the 22-man squads for the Test matches against the Wallabies.

Wallace lost his place in the Ireland side due to injury and loss of form, playing only seven times between the summers of 2003 and 2005 and was not selected for the Lions Tour to New Zealand in 2005.

But some barnstorming displays for club side Munster helped him return to the international fold in 2006 and, in 2009, he returned to the Lions squad for the Tour to South Africa.

This time Wallace was a prominent feature of the team, starting the first and second Test matches at openside flanker, before coming off the bench to replace Martyn Williams in the closing stages of the third and final encounter with the Springboks.

Wallace announced his retirement in May 2012 after struggling to make a full recovery from a knee injury first suffered nine months prior in the build-up to the 2011 World Cup.
