An inductee to the International Rugby Hall of Fame, Gordon Brown attained 30 caps for his nation and appeared 41 times for the Lions, spread out over three Tours.

Brown made his Lions debut on the 1971 Tour to Australia and New Zealand and won a pair of caps in the final two Tests of the Tour.

The lock did not score a single point in 14 appearances on his debut Tour but made amends for that in fine style three years later, in South Africa.

Brown won a further three caps against South Africa, during 12 appearances on the Tour, scoring eight tries in the process.

His final three caps came in the 1977 Tour, again to New Zealand, as Brown tasted series defeat for the first time in a Lions shirt.

The lock, often considered Scotland’s greatest second row, died in 2001, aged 53, from non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
