Ireland’s George Norton racked up three Lions appearances in the opening five matches of his sole Tour, to New Zealand and Australia in 1950, but would not pull on the famous red jersey again.
The full-back kicked three conversions and a penalty on his Lions debut, scoring nine points in the 24-9 victory over Buller in Westport.
He went on to play in two further matches, a 23-9 loss to Otago, in Dunedin, and an 11-0 loss to Southland.
The Lions lost the series against the All Blacks 3-0, but went on to with both Tests against Australia, to leave for home in high spirits.
In the green shirt of Ireland, Norton played 11 matches in the Five Nations, making his debut against France in 1949, and last playing for his country two years later, against Scotland.
