One of Munster’s finest and a stalwart of Young Munster in Limerick, Tom Clifford made his international debut for Ireland in 1949, just a year before being selected to represent the Lions on their 1950 Tour to Australia and New Zealand.
On that Tour, prop Clifford made 20 appearances in the famous red jersey, including in five Tests against the host nations, three of them against the All Blacks, and two more against Australia.
Clifford – who won 14 caps in total for Ireland – scored a solitary try during his time in the southern hemisphere, coming in the 25-3 Lions victory over Taranaki.
He also played in the clash with Ceylon played by the Lions on their return home.
